Spooky season!

Sci-fi/horror on Pluto TV

I am very much an any-day-is-a-good-day-for-horror-movies guy. That said, the Halloween season is a particularly fun time to watch horror movies. Since this is the October edition of a sci-fi newsletter, I hoped to feature some sci-fi/horror streaming movies. But I was honestly a little disappointed with the selection of sci-fi/horror on the free sites. Maybe the pay sites have more sci-fi/horror this month.

All that said, I think that Pluto TV is offering the most spooky sci-fi at the moment.

The Blob (1988) — https://pluto.tv/us/on-demand/movies/5b805a9b53abc1a358059c51/details — I haven't seen this well-liked remake in decades. Maybe I'll finally give it a watch this October.

The Faculty (1998) — https://pluto.tv/us/on-demand/movies/5f7631e976c54900134c62a7/details — I like this high school-set body snatchers movie more every time I watch it.

From Beyond (1986) — https://pluto.tv/us/on-demand/movies/5ac50b1fea0c647dd15b7c56/details — Kinky and creepy adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) — https://pluto.tv/us/on-demand/movies/61818619436116001a0bccd1/details — There are thankfully a ton of Godzilla movies streaming for free on Pluto and other sites. Halloween season is also kaiju season! Not that you need an excuse to watch a Godzilla movie.

It! The Terror From Beyond Space (1958) — https://pluto.tv/us/on-demand/movies/5f8f520e397eee001aba40ff/details — One of my favorite 1950s sci-fi monster flicks.

Universal Monsters channel — https://pluto.tv/us/search/details/channels/65a9b20f0c7ff50008d3a3b6 — The Universal Monsters channel is especially perfect this time of year.

On YouTube...

2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nNiUBVwF-o — I gotta credit the filmmakers of this one for being bold enough to make a sequel for what is arguably the greatest film of all time.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOHoxJkMjs8

Invaders From Mars (1986) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boRIa5RRmfg

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Uv4-iJqLxQ

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCUxJw3T5QM

On Tubi...

Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (2022) — https://tubitv.com/movies/671945/beyond-the-infinite-two-minutes

Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride (1973) — https://tubitv.com/movies/11459/count-dracula-and-his-vampire-bride — Hammer Film's iconic Dracula (Christopher Lee) and Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) in the swinging 1970s

Missing Link (2019) — https://tubitv.com/movies/695331/missing-link — I love Laika's animated movies, so I obviously need to check out their bigfoot flick.

The Thing From Another World (1951) — https://tubitv.com/movies/100001605/the-thing-from-another-world — I like the remake of this one better (*The Thing* from 1982), but the original is still terrific.

Village of the Damned (1995) — https://tubitv.com/movies/698798/village-of-the-damned — Carpenter’s remake of Village of the Damned is underrated. Plus it stars Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Superman (Christopher Reeve)!

On the Roku Channel...

On Freevee...

The Color Out of Space (2015) — https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07FXZS9H8/ — This looks like an interesting adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story.

The Twilight Zone (series, 2019) — https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B085N45NYN/ — Jordan Peele produced this third (I think?) Twilight Zone reboot.
